If you’re seeing the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado as a sheet-metal update, you would be mistaken. The engineers at General Motors when and updated enough of this pickup truck, that I’m willing to call it “all-new.” It has a longer, wider wheelbase, new interior, new exterior and (most importantly) new powertrains. While the new mill is a 2.7-liter turbo, it comes in three flavors.

“The all-new Colorado is enhanced in every way. With its rugged and sporty styling, enhanced capability, new technology and customization options, it’s designed to do more for discerning customers and still offer them great value.”

The base model WT and LT get the 237 horsepower 2.7-liter Turbo that makes 259 lbs-feet of torque. It has a maximum tow rating of 3,500 lbs. The 2.7 Turbo “Plus,” which is standard on the Z71 and new Trail Boss makes 310 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. It’s rated at a maximum 7,700 lbs towing. Finally, standard on the ZR2, the 2,7 Turbo “High-Output,” makes 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. Basically, it’s the same 2.7 turbo available on the Silverado.

Those numbers are insane – across the board. I’m pleased to say that Andre and I predicted this powertrain upgrade about a year ago. Speaking of upgrade, the eight-speed automatic transmission is back, and has been upgraded. According to Chevrolet, it’s an “next generation” eight-speed automatic transmission.

Another major change is the updated bolt pattern for the Colorado’s wheels. They now match the Silverado 1500, which makes wheels swaps easier, and more logical. On top of that, the frame has been significantly updated. The wheelbase is now 3.1-inches longer than before, which is significant. The 21.3-gallon fuel tank is a bit larger than before, which is a welcome upgrade as well.

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado has an all-new interior too. According to Chevrolet says that, across the 2023 Colorado lineup, there are now four unique interior trims choices for customers. Just like their new exterior design, the new interior feels a lot like a small Silverado. There are differences, like the vents and dash, but it appears that a similar design language was used styling the interior.

The Colorado has a new 11.3-inch-diagonal infotainment screen. There’s also a “segment-first” standard eight-inch diagonal fully digital color instrument display. Both infotainment screens are customizable. As I mentioned before, there is a new Trail Boss edition, and also a Desert Boss – which is a bit of a desert-runner themed truck.

There is a ton of information to chew on, and Roman covers as much as he can squeeze out of Chevrolet. Still, we don’t have pricing or EPA numbers yet.
