Scandic Göteborg Central made its debut this month within the Nordic region’s largest urban development project, Älvstaden.

The sustainably built hotel is among the biggest in the city with 451 rooms, a large riverview rooftop terrace and event space for up to 1,000 people.

The June-opened Scandic Göteborg Central is now hosting its first guests in a strategic location at the southern abutment of Hisingsbron bridge, close to Gothenburg Central Station.

The hotel’s 451 guest rooms, altogether comprising 1,225 beds, contribute to the city’s development in catering for meetings, events and sustainable tourism.

“Together with my fantastic 180-strong team, I’m thrilled to be opening a hotel that will take Gothenburg to new heights – a place where guests will be able to enjoy a taste of Miami on the roof at Above and the ideal venue for meetings both grand and intimate,” said Malin Odéhn, general manager at Scandic Göteborg Central.

“I feel great pride knowing what Scandic Göteborg Central will bring to Gothenburg. Our important task is to create memorable experiences for guests and locals, especially now that the city is gearing up for its largest event season yet.”

Peter Jangbratt, head of Sweden at Scandic Hotels, added: “It’s great to be opening Scandic’s 89th hotel in Sweden in Vasakronan’s spectacular building at the same time as we are creating more than 180 new jobs in the city.”

“Gothenburg is an important market for us and I think that opening Scandic Göteborg Central sends a clear signal that we are committed to continuing to create great experiences and even more reasons to visit the city.”

Owing to the hotel’s location, the city and harbour area flows through the spacious lobby of this site distinguished first by its glass-covered facade. Guests and locals can gather at the rooftop terrace.

During their stay, guests can dine at the Miami-inspired Above restaurant offering a playful food and drink menu featuring cocktails alongside dishes like a reinvention of the city’s famous shrimp sandwich. The partially weather-protected terrace is designed for year-round enjoyment.

Other areas catering to both locals and guests include the hotel’s airy lobby, co-working space and the hotel’s large meeting room, the Grand Container, accommodating up to 1,000 people.

Sustainability is a focus here. The hotel is ecolabeled according to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel’s new, tougher criteria and the building has also been certified LEED Platinum based on factors such as biodiversity, water conservation, energy and resource efficiency.

The rooms have been designed with circularity in mind, with features that are environmentally certified or made from recycled materials. These interiors have a lifespan of up to 15 years.
